Dendrobium crumenatum:
The common name for this orchid is "Pigeon Orchid". It is probably one of the most common orchids species in South East Asia.I used to see them when I was a child and it disappeared for sometimes due to urbanization. Thanks to our National Park in reintroducing them to where they should be. Nowadays you can find them in the large trees along the roads across the Island. Some clumps are as large 4 to 5 feet across.
The recent cool spell causes a drop in temperature has prompted them to bloom across the Island. What a sight behold to see these hanging flowers from forks of the trees. The plant produces many fragrant flowers but sadly to say they do not last. Typically it is between 1 to 2 days.
A solitary plant that was found outside my house. This plant is likely to be a wild plant.
Commonly found growing together with the Bird's Nest fern.
Curtains of flowers hanging down from the fork of the tree branches.
A close up photo of the flower.
