June 2011 - Part 2

Folks,

Here are some blooms from June. A couple of hybrids and brachys.

Paph Red Shift x charlesworthii:
A nice hybrid with deep maroon colour. This hybrid takes the colour from Red Shift which is a red maudiae. The disappointment is the dorsal which does not exhibit the dorsal of charlesworthii. The flower is very long lasting.

Paph liemianum x concolor:
Another easy to grow hybrid which is grown in SH (semi-hydro). About 1cm of the pot is submerged in water. This hybrid clusters very well. The above has about 10 shoots in it.

Paph concolor fma longipetulum:
Another form of concolor that is beginning to see more often recently. This form has narrow dorsal and petals and a long streaky line across them.

Paph concolor:
A very easy to grow plant that needs bright light. This is a very well spread species which can be found all over Indo-China (Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and SW China).

Paph angthong alba.

June 2011 - Part 1.

Hi Folks,

This is the part 1 for June 2011. In this posting I shall show some of the godefroyaes that are in bloom for the month of June.

Paph godefroyae "Blacky".
This is the second bloom for this plant. The first was in Oct 2010 when it was awarded HCC. The petals and sepal are almost covered with purple red. The NS for the petals and sepal are 72 and 42 mm respectively across. I have used the pollen from this flower to cross with another two leucochilums. Hopefully the dark colour/marking could pass on to the the two large and round flowers.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 512-2- This is the first bloom from a seedling that was bought a year and half ago. A very well marked and dark red tessellation over the whole round flower. Flower size is not large and hope the subsequently could be better off than the first bloom. This bloom is slightly smaller that her sibling. The NS and DS measure 62 and 50 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 5100-1.
This is the first bloom from a flask that was bough in December 2009. Clear pouch with burgundy streaks over the light cream base. The NS and DS measure 60 and 40 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 5009-9.
An average flower with burgundy streaking markings over light cream base and clear pouch. The NS and DS measure 68 and 40 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 5009-8.
A sibling of the above with an average flower with burgundy streaking markings over light cream base and clear pouch. The NS and DS measure 58 and 38 mm respectively.
