March 2011

This is a follow up to the flowers that were posted last month. Out of the many that are in bloom now, I have chosen 8 for your viewing pleasure. A couple of nice clones. Other than 136-4 and 155-5, the other 6 are all first bloom.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 512-1 - This is the first bloom from a seedling that was bought a year ago. A very well marked and dark red tesselation over the whole round flower. The photo on the right shows the back of the flower. Flower size is not large and hope the subsequently could be better off than the first bloom. The NS and DS measure 68 and 47 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum AP68-1 - This is the first bloom that flowered in 26 months. A very wide "roof" (dorsal sepal) with marking across the whole round flower. Fairly large flower with burgundy streaking markings over light cream base The NS and DS measure 86 and 52 mm respectively. During the March OSSEA Table Display, This plant was placed under the Paph species section. It was neck to neck with 3559-6 but judges finally decided on this flower.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 3559-6 - This is the first bloom that flowered at about the same time with the sibling 3559-5. You can look at both of them and compare the difference. Burgundy streaking markings over light cream base with nice and spotless pouch. The NS and DS measure 86 and 52 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 3559-5 - This is the first bloom. It is the biggest among the 6 siblings that have flowered. The shape is somehow different from the other sibling which are round in shape. However, this clone has a NS of 104 mm. An extra large for this species/form. It is sad that the shape is not so nice and slightly flexed. Burgundy spottings over light cream base. The NS and DS measure 104 and 45 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 155-5 - This is the second bloom. This was one of the parents that made the cross for 157. Dark burgundy markings all over light cream base. Another crossing that have been producing dark, well marked and round f1ower. Flower 157 inherited the features of this parent. The NS and DS measure 75 and 50 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 157-7 - This is the first bloom from a crossing which have been producing large (>75 mm) and round flowers. Burgundy markings over light cream base. Clear spotless pouch. The NS and DS measure 82 and 50 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae fma leucochilum 136-4 - This is the second bloom. Burgundy markings over light cream base. It is not a large bloom but shape is round with wide dorsal sepal. The NS and DS measure 68 and 40 mm respectively.

Paph godefroyae 107-3 - This is the first bloom from a cluster of 3 heads. It has a narrow and long and tesellated markings on the leaves. The flower has very dark red marking over cream base. The damage at the bottom of he petals were the result of mealy bugs attack. The NS and DS measure 52 and 34 mm respectively.
