May 2011 - Part II

This is part 2 for May 2011. In this post I shall show two hybrids.

Paph Benkei:
A hybrid that was registered in 2004 from a cross between Paph godefroyae and S.Gratrix. It could easily be mistaken to be godefroyae. Round flower with burgundy streak and dots over cream base. I reckon this clone should be around 60% S..Gratrix and 40% of it from godefroyae. The shape is strongly influenced by S.Gratrix. The NS and DS are 66 and 40 mm respectively.

Paph Yang-Ji Apple:
This is a primary hybrid between two multi florals. Yang-Ji Apple is a relatively new primary cross between Paph. anitum and Paph. philippinense. Dark flowers, with an almost black dorsal and dark maroon petals. The flower can be very variable and can take the form of either parent. However, the dark dorsal of anitum is generally dominant in most of the crossings with anitum.
This clone has 3 flowers. The length of the petal is 19 cm long, DS is 52 mm and petal is 10 mm across.
