PaphMuriel Constance. This is a nice hybrid between Greyi (godefroyae x niveum) and bellatulum. Very fine spots across the whole flower. The back of the flower is just as spectacular. An easy to grow hybrid to grow and flower. Even if it does not flower, the markings on the leaves are just as beautiful. This plant was grown from flask and it is the 2nd time that the plant is flowering.
The above shows the Paph that came in 3rd in the overall placing for the show. This plant was grown from flask. The first time that this plant flowered was last year and this the 2nd time that the plant is blooming. The NS of the flower is 84 mm. Extremely dark pigmentation across the whole flower over a cream base.
The above show was held earlier this afternoon at the Function Room, Botany Centre, SBG. Today's talk was "Knowing your Orchid" - Renanthera and its hybrids by Mr. Syed Yusof Alsagoff. Mr Alsagoff is one of the pioneer orchid growers in Singapore. It was an interesting talk and the audience have a good insight and tips on orchid hybridization.
4 plants were brought to the Table Display - 2 leucochilums, niveum and Muriel Constance. There were several hybrids in today's show so the judges decided to split the Paphs into species and hybrids.
Two plants were placed in the show. Paph leucochilum TR136-1 was judged the best Paph under the Paphiopedilum Alliance while Paph Muriel Constance was judged as the best hybrid.
