Paph niveum

Paph niveum RF2 -A nice clone of Paph niveum. This compact growing plant has three spikes. The 3rd spike has not fully developed yet. The other two have 2 flowers on each spike. A nice showy plant even if it is not flowering.

Paph niveum Sogo alba x Paph niveum Prathana FCC/TOS - A seedling that was bought 1 year ago. The parentage is semi-alba (Paph niveum Sogo alba). The other being an award winning parent of Paph niveum Prathana.

The flower is not very large but it has nice round shape and symmetrical markings especially on the petals.

Flowering - 10 months out of flask

The flowering bud(top picture) is from a seedling that was deflasked on 7th June 08. The seedling is about 10 months old. The leaves size is about 8 cm long. This is the shortest time to flower for me from flask. Prior to this, Paph niveum bloomed at 18 months after it was out of flask.

The plant is a hybrid between Paph Muriel Constance (Paph bellatullum x Greyi) and Paph bellatullum. Both the parents flowers are very round and have very nice spottings. Hope see these traits in the siblings. Once the flower is fully developed, I shall post the picture.

Paph leucochilums MK436-2, MK366-4 and Greyi x hangianum 2126-1

Paph Greyi x hangianum Hsiao 2126-1 (top/1st photo):

Another Parvi hybrid. This is a hybrid between hangianum and Greyi (bellatullum x niveum). The dorsal and petals markings of hangianum is present and well spread in this hybrid.

Paph leucochilum MK436-2 (2nd and 3rd photos):

The second clone to flower from this flask. This clone NS (70 mm) is slightly smaller than the previous clone of MK436-1 (87 mm). However the markings are very dark.

Paph leucochilum MK366-4 (4th and 5th photos):

This is the 4th clone to flower from the same flask. The NS is 68 mm across. Size is not large but this clone has the nicest shape (round and symmetrical). The markings/spotting are light and well spread across the petals and dorsal sepal.

Paph leucochilum Siblings

These are the two siblings from the same flask. No doubt there are siblings but you may notice that one has slight edge over the other in terms of the markings and colour.

Both the sibling NS are 70 mm across. These are the 4th and 5th flower from the same flask.

OSSEA April 2009 Table Display

Another award under the papahiopedilum Alliance for this hybrid (Paph godefroyae leucochilum In-Charm SM/TPS x Paph armeniacum GV1000). This plant was obtained from a Taiwanese grower in July 2008 during the Singapore Garden Festival.

It has an exceptional large flower. The NS measures 11 cm across. The size of the flower is twice the nice of the leaves (see photo). The colour and size is like armeniacum and the spotting like leucochilum. The parents leucochilum and armeniacum are usually between 7-10 and 8-10 cm respectively.

Note: Paph armenicum will not tolerate our hot summer temperature. To grow this species or the other parvisepalum (micranthum, delenatii, malipoense and emersonii), you need air conditioning to bring down the night temperature.

Paph leucochilums

Here are four recent flowering Paph leucochilums. All these plants were grown from flask in Mid 2006.

1st clone - a clone with two flowers which flower very close to another.

2nd clone - An exceptional large flower with 87 mm across the NS.

3rd clone - No doubt this clone do not have very markings but the form is pretty round.

4th clone - Another nice clone with dark dorsal patch and nice markings.

Paph concolor and niveum

Here are 4 photos of recent flowers.

The two niveums are grown from flask. Both have very round shape.

The uncommon form of Paph concolor longipetulum has a narrow and erected petals and longitudinal across the petals and sepal.

The other Paph concolor is from another locality.
